Oil stone box(2)

It is very essential that the object has to fix, when we use hand tools for woodworking. Using G-clamp is one of the easiest way and need 2 scraps to protect the object form press of the clamp.

Mr Lim! Where is your g clamp?

Removing the outline area. 90 degree angle from the wood and hit the top of chise with a hammer(do not use your head). We should be careful about grains ,otherwise the timber may split.

This is the profile view and  we had to think about the deepth reagarding the size of each oil stones. Also,we needed to make sure that there were small gaps between the upper wood and the oilstone, however, the oilstone should be stuck in the bottom.                                                  The last picture on the blackboard shows how to  use 'Plunge router' - because it is quite difficult to control, we should start from the middle and slowly move it clockwise direction and make the rounds bigger and bigger. We have to keep press this router in same strength, if not the floor will not be flat also, if we move it too slowly, the timber will burn(I like the smell tough^^)

I have learnt about 'the impotnace of the accuracy' since last task, so it wasn't easy from the beging.
It took pretty long time to measure and marked lines on the timber.

Made several halls on the timber

Carefully...

How to make your TOOL BOX (3)

It was the last stage. To join sides and ends together with nails. It wasn't easy for me because my sides were warpped too much.
Completed!

How to make your TOOL BOX (2)

It is moving very fast! Watch out!
Use Speed sander to clean the surface of SIDEs. Sand paper is moving upside down. Also, there is the handle at the table, so we can push and pull. With a wood-push stick, rub the sandper. We can remove the stain made by glue. Make sure that we cannot work this kinds of machine with untocked shirt!!

From next stage, our task became harder. We needed to use 'HAND TOOL's

hand plane

chisel
When we work with a plane and a chisel, always be fixed the objects. With comfortable position, mainly push the handle with right arm(hand). Left hand should support. The easy way to use a hand plane is push it diagonally. If push a plane straightly, usually it stuck in the middle of timber and makes an huge scar(That's my experience^^)

Generally, when we work with timber, we should LEAVE some extra just in case of mistake. However, from this, no more extra and have to be accrurate. When we use chisels, we need to care about the grain of timber otherwise, it might split.
Moreover, think about the thickness of blade when we use the (hand)saw.

Make a squae hole

For better handle grip, we needed to use 'Rouater Table'. However, I made an huge mistake. There isn't 'undo' option in real life.

Trim the buttom of timber with a hand plane.

How to make your TOOL BOX (1)

Buzzer/Overhand planner

First, we did dressing timers with 'Buzzer'. This machine makes the side face(narrow part) of timber be flat. It is better that somebody holds the timber from the other side of machine when we cut(dock) long timbers.
Table saw
For making the timber parallel, we used table saw. It looks very dangerous.
Deep rip
Cut the side part as diagonal with the deep rip(pretty hard to use it - push the timber slowly) and joint two timbers with nails.

Sanding
Rattet
Plane the END part, Rabbet the END and cut the top of timpers

Grind the edge of timber(give some radius) Sanding machine is also dangerous. Be careful from the finger injury.

Divide the timbers again and glue them

Stock the timers using nails

Kick off

I started my CAT boatbuilding course with making TOOL BOX.  It was very excited on the other hand I was nervous because I have naver used thoese kind of machines before. Before I really started this work, my fellow students and I got a safty education. The most important things are "BE CAREFUL" and "USE MACHINES IN RIGHT WAY" when we work at the workshop.

We learnt how to use machinens

For working at the workshop, we need some safe gears such as ear muffs and goggles. Also we shouldn't wear sandal things.

It's better to work together and it is good way to use the hand signs when the workshop is noisy.
